About 300 artists in seven disciplines are awarded Fellowships each year and the sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence. There are no residency fees, and need-based stipends and travel reimbursement grants are available to open the residency to the broadest possible community of artists. MacDowell encourages applications from artists of all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. Any applicant whose proposed project does not fall clearly within one of these artistic disciplines should contact the admissions department for guidance. Long Meadow Art Residency is a six week – three-month solo residency nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. LMAR offers studio space and housing, allowing time for artists to retreat and deepen their practice. The Creative Capital Curriculum combines foundational tools and knowledge for artist professional development with contemporary critical frameworks in cultural discourse. coLAB Arts' Monthly Artist Grant celebrates artists in New Jersey who use creative practice to support their local communities and create greater public good. Nominations are now being accepted for the month of February. | Application and information.

The A League Apart exhibition showcases the importance of breaking barriers through the stories of the Philadelphia Negro Leagues and their ongoing legacy. It focuses on five Barrier Breakers in particular: Octavius Catto, Henry “Pop” Lloyd, Ed Bolden, Richard “Dick” Allen, and Mo’ne Davis. Celebrate Douglass Day with a transcribe-a-thon in honor of the birthday of Frederick Douglass (1818-1895). Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP, limited seats available. Use one of our provided iPads for this project or bring your own laptop or iPad to this event! The transcribe-a-thon will bring together thousands of participants at more than one hundred simultaneous events around the world.
