The New Jersey Cultural Trust Capital Historic Preservation Grants Program is collaboratively administered by the New Jersey Historic Trust for and with the New Jersey Cultural Trust. The Cultural Trust Act (2000) created a Trust Fund, from which grants may be awarded to support capital projects, endowments and institutional and financial stabilization of qualified organizations. The Act directs the New Jersey Historic Trust to design and administer programs that recommend capital projects to the Cultural Trust. All history, arts and humanities organizations with stewardship responsibility for historic resources that are listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places, and qualified by the New Jersey Cultural Trust, are eligible to apply for 2023 (FY24) capital historic preservation funding. The New Jersey Cultural Trust was established by law in July 2000 to develop a permanent source of funding for arts, history and humanities organizations. The New Jersey Historic Trust was established by statute in 1967 as a nonprofit historic preservation organization created to preserve and protect New Jersey’s historic resources. Through its programs and activities, the Historic Trust assists, supports, and safeguards historic structures throughout the State. To be eligible for funds, an organization must be a New Jersey-based, nonprofit organization that has been qualified by the Cultural Trust by March 15, 2023. In order to become qualified by this date, qualification applications must be postmarked no later than February 17, 2023 and submitted to the Cultural Trust. The NJHC’s General Operating Support (GOS) program was established in 2000 to provide critical support to organizations engaged in preserving, researching, and interpreting New Jersey history. Its primary goal is to encourage excellence and innovation.

Project grants must deliver high-quality, engaging New Jersey history to a diverse audience. The applicant must demonstrate that it practices professional standards specific to its discipline. Project grants are available to both individuals and organizations. Project Grants at a Glance  Applicants can request up to $20,000 in support of their project.  Applicants are only allowed to submit one application per Project grant round.  Individuals and organizations are restricted to one open Project grant at a time.  Organizational applicants are allowed to be recipients of both the GOS grant program and the Project grant program.

Grantmakers in the Arts has partnered with Race Forward and True North EDI to develop the Racial Equity in Arts Funding Workshop, which we premiered at the 2017 GIA Annual Conference. GIA has been hosting the workshop for grantmakers since 2017 to overwhelmingly positive feedback. GIA continues to offer racial equity workshops to support funders with nuts-and-bolts guidance on how to better serve African, Latine, Asian, Arab, Native American communities through their grantmaking. This workshop for grantmakers will include information on the history of racialization in the United States, the history of cultural funding, and real-world examples of racial equity funding, strategies, and resources you may bring with you back to your organizations.

We have adapted our workshops from the in-person format to offer them safely to you online. The new four-part structure will create more opportunities for reflection and dialogue without sacrificing the rich content we have prepared.

The workshop will be 12 hours and divided into 4 three-hour modules.

About 300 artists in seven disciplines are awarded Fellowships each year and the sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence. There are no residency fees. Need-based travel grants and stipends are available to open the residency experience to the broadest possible community of artists. Artists with professional standing in their fields, as well as emerging artists, are eligible to apply. MacDowell encourages artists from all backgrounds and all countries in the following disciplines: architecture, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre, and visual arts. Any applicant whose proposed project does not fall clearly within one of these artistic disciplines should contact the admissions department for guidance. We aim to be inclusive, not exclusive in our admissions process.

In December 2021, the Poetry Foundation announced a new grantmaking strategy to provide support to the fields of poetry and literary arts.

The Poetry Foundation has committed $9 million over three years, beginning in 2022. Grants will support US-based nonprofit organizations through the following priorities:

• Continuing relief funding in 2022 to nonprofit poetry and literary arts organizations impacted by the pandemic;
• Investing in building and strengthening the capacity of BIPOC leadership at nonprofit poetry, literary arts, and publishing organizations, and programs;
• Cultivating and engaging new, diverse audiences for poetry;
• Fostering new collaborations and partnerships, as well as innovation and new technologies in the field.

The Poetry Foundation is a private foundation; its mission is to amplify poetry and celebrate poets by fostering spaces for all to create, experience, and share poetry. The Foundation strives to achieve this through an array of programs and publications designed to develop new audiences, create innovative avenues for delivery, and recognize and support all forms of poetry.

These goals are grounded in the Foundation’s values and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The Foundation’s grantmaking initiative actively seeks to build equitable practices and share its resources ethically within the poetry ecosystem to achieve this aim.

The Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (RCINJ) is seeking an Artist or Artist Team to design and install site-specific feature artwork(s) for their new Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center. Developed in partnership with the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), the 12 story, 520,000 square foot center is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in 2025 across from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the existing Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. It will serve as a hub for treatment, patient services and research in a first-of-its-kind facility in New Jersey.

The hospital will be building an extensive art collection to be enjoyed by patients, caregivers, and staff throughout the building in waiting areas, exam rooms, corridors, and patient rooms. Potential sites for feature artwork(s) to welcome visitors and set the tone for their journey include both exterior and interior locations.

Budget: $450,000

Through this program, ASLD hosts a Visiting Artist who identifies as Black, Indigenous, and/or a person of color for a 6-9 month long residency. The residency offers the artist access to dedicated studio space at ASLD; the opportunity to lead workshops, lectures, and community engagement programs; and culminates with a solo exhibition of work created throughout the residency. 

Each residency is tailored to the artist’s expertise and discipline. Selected artists lead workshops specific to themes and issues of importance to Black, Indigenous, and/or people of color and other underrepresented communities. Selected artists have a dedicated 900 sq ft studio at the Art Students League of Denver for the duration of their residency. The studio can be equipped with equipment appropriate to the resident artist’s practice (necessary equipment is covered by ASLD as part of our grant funding for this project). Artist has access to classes and instruction offered at ASLD.  Artists will receive a monthly stipend to cover housing and living expenses as well as studio materials. The budget for housing costs and living expenses is determined based on Denver market rates at the time of the residency. Staff is available to assist with securing housing if desired. Details about the monthly stipend are available upon request.
