he Teiger Foundation provides grants for U.S.-based, curator-led initiatives in contemporary visual art. Supported initiatives may include group exhibitions, single-artist surveys, participatory and community-engaged art projects, digital exhibitions, live and virtual performance in the context of the visual arts, and as-yet-unknown curatorial forms involving contemporary visual art and artists. Grant categories include grants of up to $150,000 for single projects led by curators at organizations of all sizes; grants of up to $150,000 for three years of programming at organizations with annual budgets less than $3.5 million, including independent art spaces, contemporary art centers, nonprofit art institutions, kunsthalles, university galleries, and small contemporary art museums; grants of up to $75,000 for hosting exhibitions that originated elsewhere; and grants of up to $50,000 for curatorial research and development in the earliest stages of a project. 501(c)(3) institutions in the U.S. are eligible to apply. | Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from January 2 to February 14, 2024.

Grants for Arts Projects (GAP) provides expansive funding opportunities to strengthen the nation’s arts and cultural ecosystem. Grants are available for arts projects in a wide variety of artistic disciplines. Each discipline has identified the types of projects that are of greatest interest within this program as well as the characteristics of competitive applications.

The Jim Henson Foundation supports excellence in contemporary American puppet theater. The Foundation’s Artist Grants provide funding for the creation of innovative new works of contemporary puppet theater in the United States. Production Grants fund the production of new works ready to premiere in the coming year. Workshop Grants are for the development and workshopping of these pieces. Family Grants support the development of new and innovative work specifically for children, families, and teenagers ready to premiere in the coming year. Grants are made only for the development of new works of excellent live puppet theater. Applications are welcome from individual artists, but those without 501(c)(3) nonprofit status must apply through a fiscal sponsor.

Grant amount: Production Grants of $7,000, Workshop Grants of $3,000, and Family Grants of $4,000 are available.

Grant amount: $50,000 to $150,000 | Description: The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund advances place-based cultural heritage preservation projects for historic places representing African American cultural heritage. The Fund’s National Grant Program supports ongoing preservation activities for historic places such as sites, museums, and landscapes representing African American cultural heritage. Funding is provided in four primary areas: capital projects, organizational capacity building, project planning, and programming and interpretation. Public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including state and local preservation organizations, churches, private colleges and universities, historic sites, museums, historical societies, and genealogical associations, are eligible to apply. (The Fund’s Conserving Black Modernism grant program, supporting the preservation of modern architectural sites designed by Black architects, is also open for application.)

Creative Capital welcomes innovative and original new project proposals in visual arts, performing arts, film/moving image, technology, literature, multidisciplinary, and socially engaged forms. The Creative Capital Award provides unrestricted project grants up to $50,000 which can be drawn down over a multi-year period, bespoke professional development services, and community-building opportunities. Grants are awarded via a democratic, national, open call, external review process. The first round of the application process consists of 6 questions. Our goal is to fund approximately 50 individual artists creating conceptually, aesthetically, and formally challenging, risk-taking, and never-before-seen projects.

Jazz Road Tours, a program of South Arts with funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, provides grants of up to $15,000 to jazz artists to develop tours into communities across the country. Support is provided for small, three-to-six site tours at an array of venue types anywhere in the U.S and its territories. Applications that include engagements in rural areas or that reach typically underserved communities, especially those that lack opportunities to present live jazz, will be prioritized. Individual professional jazz artists (as an individual, an artist-led nonprofit organization, or an artist-led corporation), working solo or working with a composer-led or collective jazz ensemble, are eligible to apply.

Grants of up to $7250 will be awarded to 24 performing arts organizations for the creation of individual institutional emergency preparedness or Continuity of Operations (CoOP) plans.

A program administered on behalf of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, American Music Abroad artists represent the new generation of musical ambassadors, reaching beyond concert halls to interact with other musicians and citizens around the globe. Approximately ten ensembles of American music in different genres are selected each year to embark on a two- to three-week long, multi-country tour, where they engage with international audiences and artists through public concerts, performances and collaborations with local musicians, lectures and demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions, and media interviews.
