About the Grant:

Through funding provided by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and New Jersey State Historical Commission, the Division of Culture & Heritage provides Cape May County organizations an opportunity to apply for funding for operations and projects that have an arts and/or history component. *Please see Guidelines for additional information (TAB to left).

The 2023 N.J. State Historical Commission Grant will allow the Division to re-grant; in part or whole: $60,781.50.

The 2023 N.J. State Council on the Arts Grant will allow the Division to re-grant; in part or whole: $200,000.00.

This funding is re-granted yearly through a competitive application process, so long as funding remains available.

Grants to New Jersey composers for the creation of a new work of concert music and its performance in New Jersey. The size of the grant depends on the scope of the work. Composers are expected to complete the work within a year with a performance scheduled within six months of completion. Special consideration will be given to projects with the potential to have a significant impact on the applicant’s compositional career.

The Halstead Grant is an annual award for emerging silver jewelry artists. Applicants submit answers to 15 business questions in addition to their design portfolios. The experience is designed to help jewelry entrepreneurs create a strategy to kick-start their careers. The grand prize is a $7,500 cash grant plus other benefits. The deadline is August 1st each year.

When you’re telling stories and building products for a community, it’s best to do that work alongside that community. That's the ethos behind Real Tone, our efforts to more accurately and beautifully represent people of color on Google Pixel 6 and in Google Photos. A key part of our work on Real Tone was our deep partnerships with image experts — including renowned photographers, cinematographers, colorists and directors — whose artistry has expanded our collective understanding of whose stories need to be told. This emphasis on community-driven storytelling is the foundation of our first Image Equity Fellowship, launching today.

The Image Equity Fellowship aims to support the next generation of image makers of color. This six-month, application-based program will award $20,000 in unrestricted funds, intimate mentorship and dedicated workshops with industry experts to each of the 20 selected early-career creators in the U.S. The creators will develop visual bodies of work that share urgent, untold stories of their communities with dignity and nuance. Fellows will also receive support from Google and our partners in exhibiting their completed projects in-person and online.

We are partnering with three nonprofits which contribute to a more representatively diverse world of artists. Through print, online media and in-person events, Aperture connects the photo community and its audiences with the most inspiring work, the sharpest ideas and with each other. For Freedoms is an artist collective that centers art and creativity as a catalyst for transformative connection and collective liberation. And FREE THE WORK’s global talent discovery community bridges the gap between opportunities and underrepresented emerging artists.

Our partners curated a selection of industry-celebrated mentors to guide the fellows: Lebanese filmmaker and photographer Ahmed Klink, American artist and 2016 Guggenheim Fellow Lyle Ashton Harris, photographer and documentarian Bee Walker and multi-hyphenate creative Mahaneela.

Applications for the Image Equity Fellowship are now open through 11:59 pm Eastern on Friday, July 18 to all early-career artists who self-identify as a person of color, are based in the U.S. and are at least 18 years old. To learn more about the Fellowship and to apply, visit the website.

This Design Trust will be a collaborative solutions space where data users, designers, writers, and multimedia creators will ideate around translating open environmental data policy opportunities into prototype designs and future narratives. We’ll build on insights from our Brain Trusts and opportunity briefs, which explore local environmental and climate planning, and more broadly instrumentalizing environmental data as a public good. I expect capacity building—with both government and communities—will be a big focus, as many of the roles, processes, and infrastructure we've been discussing in this space don't exist widely yet, if at all.

2023 Individual Artist Fellowships

Individual Artist Fellowships are awarded to practicing New Jersey artists through an anonymous, competitive application process to help them pursue their artistic goals.

Mid Atlantic Arts administers the application submission, review, and post-award process on behalf of New Jersey State Council on the Arts through an ongoing partnership. This includes applicant notification, administration of the individual grants, and final reporting.

Application Assistance Webinars

Mid Atlantic Arts, in coordination with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, offers application assistance webinars for prospective Fellowship applicants. Applicants will receive an overview of guideline requirements and step-by-step instructions on how to use the SmartSimple application system.

Registration is required. Individuals that register for a webinar will receive the connection information and instructions via email. To register, please follow the link listed next to your desired Webinar date.

Compass’s DEI Cohorts are designed for nonprofit CEOs/Executive Directors who are committed to moving their organizations forward on diversity, equity, and inclusion. This fall, our cohorts will work with Jeanne J. Holmes, PhD of RiskVersity and other DEI experts to craft implementable DEI plans for their nonprofits.
As a cohort participant, you will explore how your lived experiences shape your perspective as a leader, conduct organizational assessments through a DEI lens, develop DEI priorities and metrics for success, and establish concrete goals that engage staff and board members in your nonprofit’s DEI work.
You'll also benefit from:

• 5 hours of one-on-one guidance/mentorship from a DEI expert
• A supportive peer group of fellow nonprofit CEOs/Executive Directors
• Access to other Compass resources, including our annual Sorkin Summit

Grants for Arts Projects is our principal grants program for organizations based in the United States. Through project-based funding, the program supports public engagement with, and access to, various forms of art across the nation, the creation of art, learning in the arts at all stages of life, and the integration of the arts into the fabric of community life.

Applicants may request cost share/matching grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. Designated local arts agencies eligible to subgrant may request from $10,000 to $150,000 for subgranting programs in the Local Arts Agencies discipline. A minimum cost share/match equal to the grant amount is required.

Submitting an application is a multi-step process:

• Register with Login.gov, SAM and Grants.gov or renew/verify these registrations.
• Part 1: Submit to Grants.gov the “Application for Federal Domestic Assistance/Short Organization Form.” This is a brief form that will collect very basic information about your organization.
• Part 2: Complete the “Grant Application Form (GAF)” and upload items through the NEA’s Applicant Portal. This web form is where you will enter the majority of your application material (e.g., project description, timelines, budget information).

Login.gov, SAM, Grants.gov (Part 1), and the NEA’s Applicant Portal (Part 2) are separate online systems.

We are happy to announce that the fourth phase of funding will open on June 9, 2022. The NJACRF Phase 4 application deadline is July 19, 2022.

NJACRF was created in 2020 by a coalition of funders to ensure the strength and survival of the nonprofit arts, cultural and historical sector statewide during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this round, the Fund will provide General Operating Support grants to eligible nonprofit arts, cultural and historical organizations. Grant guidelines, eligibility criteria, and application requirements can be found on the NJACRF website.

Created in 1993 to further FCA's mission to encourage, sponsor, and promote work of a contemporary, experimental nature, Emergency Grants provide urgent funding for visual and performing artists who:

• Have sudden, unanticipated opportunities to present their work to the public when there is insufficient time to seek other sources of funding
• Incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates

Emergency Grants is the only active, multi-disciplinary program that offers immediate assistance of this kind to artists living and working anywhere in the United States, for projects occurring in the U.S. and abroad. Each month FCA receives an average of 95 Emergency Grant applications and makes approximately 12-15 grants. Grants range in amount from $500 to $3,000, and the average grant is now $1,700.
