What might you discover while exploring the shadows you cast? In this supportive poetry workshop, we will construct urbanized spaces in our writing that reflect our motivations and individuality. By calling upon the works of Langston Hughes, William Carlos Williams, Allen Ginsberg, June Jordan and others, we will examine the synergy between our inner dialogue and how we occupy space on the page. Through generative prompts and exercises, we will pay close attention to how we navigate the world and the decisions that build our unique writing process.

Appel Farm Arts and Music Center, located in Elmer, NJ, is seeking passionate, experienced artists with a vested interest in arts education and arts integration to serve as Teaching Artists at locations throughout Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland County, NJ. Artists with expertise in music, theater, dance, 2D and 3D visual arts, and creative writing are needed for a variety of educational experiences including in-school residencies, after-school residencies, and Arts Lab classes for early childhood, kids and teens, and adults. Teaching Artists must have demonstrated previous teaching experience teaching their area of the arts, ideally in a school setting. We are seeking artists who share in our mission that creativity and artistic talents are innate and waiting to be developed in every person. Ideal candidates are progressive and offer engaging classroom strategies, with a classroom management approach focused on meeting people where they are at, collaborative problem solving, and restorative practices. Experience with early childhood education, differentiated instruction, and multilingual, especially Spanish-speaking, a plus. This is a great opportunity to build your teaching resume, learning and implementing Arts Integration skills. These are hourly positions starting at $75 per hour. When you’re telling stories and building products for a community, it’s best to do that work alongside that community. That's the ethos behind Real Tone, our efforts to more accurately and beautifully represent people of color on Google Pixel 6 and in Google Photos. A key part of our work on Real Tone was our deep partnerships with image experts — including renowned photographers, cinematographers, colorists and directors — whose artistry has expanded our collective understanding of whose stories need to be told. This emphasis on community-driven storytelling is the foundation of our first Image Equity Fellowship, launching today.

The Image Equity Fellowship aims to support the next generation of image makers of color. This six-month, application-based program will award $20,000 in unrestricted funds, intimate mentorship and dedicated workshops with industry experts to each of the 20 selected early-career creators in the U.S. The creators will develop visual bodies of work that share urgent, untold stories of their communities with dignity and nuance. Fellows will also receive support from Google and our partners in exhibiting their completed projects in-person and online.

Our partners curated a selection of industry-celebrated mentors to guide the fellows: Lebanese filmmaker and photographer Ahmed Klink, American artist and 2016 Guggenheim Fellow Lyle Ashton Harris, photographer and documentarian Bee Walker and multi-hyphenate creative Mahaneela.

This Design Trust will be a collaborative solutions space where data users, designers, writers, and multimedia creators will ideate around translating open environmental data policy opportunities into prototype designs and future narratives. We’ll build on insights from our Brain Trusts and opportunity briefs, which explore local environmental and climate planning, and more broadly instrumentalizing environmental data as a public good. I expect capacity building—with both government and communities—will be a big focus, as many of the roles, processes, and infrastructure we've been discussing in this space don't exist widely yet, if at all.

Artists-in-Residence are invited to utilize the resources of the Museum’s campus including The Studio, the extensive collections and archives of the Museum, and the Rakow Research Library.

In 2023 the Oak Spring Garden Foundation will host five separate five-week interdisciplinary residencies. Each session is designed to support eight artists who are pursuing work inspired by plants, gardens and landscapes. The goal of this residency program is to provide individuals with the time and space to pursue their own creative projects alongside other residents who may be examining the natural world from different perspectives.

Stochastic Labs awards fully sponsored residencies to exceptional engineers, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Residencies are of variable length and include a private apartment at the mansion, co-working and/or dedicated workspace, shop access (laser cutter, 3D printer, etc), a $1k monthly stipend, and a budget for materials. Residents become part of Stochastic’s creative community, participating in weekly dinners and invitation events. Residents may apply as individuals or as teams. While applicants may be at any stage in their career, the selection is highly competitive.
