The AXS Film Fund invites applications from creators of color in documentary filmmaking or nonfiction new media. AXS Film Fund strives to support independent documentary filmmakers and nonfiction new media creators of color living with disabilities in their endeavors to tell stories, make films, and create content. This program is for creators of color in documentary filmmaking or nonfiction new media who identify as living with a disability. We seek to bring visibility to creators who are oftentimes overlooked. While we prefer that a person of color living with a disability is a key contributor to the project, we welcome diverse teams to apply. Up to five creators are awarded with grants of up to $10,000 each to assist them in finishing their projects in any stage of production. | Deadline: Wednesday, July 31, 2024. | Learn more here.

NJCH is proud to sponsor the Sankofa Collaborative’s continuing series of workshops on the complex and difficult issues in the history and current experiences of African American citizens of New Jersey. The next event in the series will be an all-day workshop at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ on Friday, July 19, 2024, from 9 am to 4 pm. The theme of the Collaborative’s 2024 workshops is “Jim Crow in New Jersey – Policies, Regulations, and Practices Supporting Discrimination and Segregation in the Garden State.” Registration is required at https://sankofacollaborative.org/upcoming-programs. The New Jersey Association of Museums is pleased to offer the Artifact Assessment Program (AAP). A FREE service for non-profit history, museum, and science organizations in New Jersey that collect and care for the artifacts that help tell our unique history. AAP is funded by the New Jersey Historical Commission and managed by NJAM. The program is designed to guide organizations on how to best provide optimal care for the objects entrusted to them, so that current and future generations can continue to benefit from a close connection to history. Alternating every other year with the NJ Historic Trust and the NJ Historical Commission, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts accepts applications and recommends grants to the Cultural Trust for funding. For FY 2025, the Arts Council will accept applications from arts organizations for institutional and financial stabilization projects to recommend to the Cultural Trust for funding. Guidelines and application instructions for the National Endowment for the Arts’ Our Town Grant Program are available now! Our Town is the NEA’s creative placemaking grants program. Through project-based funding, the program supports activities that integrate arts, culture, and design into local efforts that strengthen communities over the long term. The deadline to submit the first part of the application on Grants.gov is August 1 (note: registration can take several weeks; start early!). The NEA applicant portal to complete the second part of the application will be open August 8-15.
