The Hopper Prize  is now accepting entries for our Fall 2023 artist grants. We are offering $3,500 and $1,000 grants to artists and photographers around the world.Grants will be awarded through an open call art competition juried by leading contemporary curators. Current Jurors: Laura Phipps, Assistant Curator, Whitney Museum of American Art and Rachel Winter, Assistant Curator, Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. The Hopper Prize was established in order to increase the recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. Our aim is to advance artists' careers by providing them with unrestricted financial support that is coupled with a platform for increased visibility. We accept submissions twice a year via an open call. We are currently accepting submissions for the Fall 2023 grant cycle.

The Projects Serving Artists (PSA) grant program provides support to help eligible organizations cover costs for technical support or services to artists who reside in New Jersey or whose work benefits New Jersey residents. The project must demonstrate direct benefit to New Jersey artists.

Applicants may request up to $25,000 in support of the project’s direct expenses. Grant funds must be matched 1:1 ($1 earned or raised and spent per $1 received from the Arts Council).

Applicants may propose a new or significantly renewed project. Examples of eligible renewed projects are those that have evidence of success in serving the artist community and are being re-envisioned in a significant way.

The Arts Council will prioritize projects that are free or accessible to artists for a reduced fee.

General Operating Support (GOS) grants provide annual support for the overall operations of organizations with missions exclusively devoted to the arts and which meet the Council’s eligibility criteria. GOS grants are typically awarded with a three-year commitment, subject to contract stipulations, and available funds which are contingent upon, in part, the passage of the state budget for the grant cycle. Beginning in FY25, there is no match requirement for the GOS grant.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts is pleased to share Part One of The Business of Being an Artist Virtual Workshop Series, “Every Artist Insured: Understanding Your Options in New Jersey.” The artist workshop series is free and open to any artist, teaching artist, or folk artist who lives and/or works in New Jersey.

What: Feeling at a loss when looking for affordable health insurance? Have no idea how to identify a quality plan? "Every Artist Insured” will give you clear, step-by-step guidance on what all your insurance options are and how to get the most affordable coverage to fit your needs. You’ll learn about Affordable Care Act plans, Medicaid, COBRA, and how to get discounted care if you’re uninsured. Find out how to estimate variable/sporadic income and see if you’re eligible for free insurance or expanded subsidies to reduce your premiums. This is an excellent opportunity for unbiased, comprehensive information from an experienced health insurance navigator.

Join other arts educators and supervisors for this new year-long series! Participants will engage in facilitated dialogue as well as peer-to-peer learning, in order to actively explore approaches to teaching and learning that empower student artists. This series will feature examples that model holistic implementation of the 2020 NJSLS-VPA, with focus on planning and assessment, to support the range of student populations in classrooms today. 

The series will combine (two) full-day, in-person workshops, along with (three) 90 minute sessions in Zoom format. This series is ideal for those who supervise the arts, and for arts educators in all arts disciplines. Enrollment in this series includes access to a Google Classroom designed to support the learning, in addition to the two i n-person workshops and an archived recording of the virtual sessions. 

The Center for Cooperative Media’s South Jersey Information Equity Project (SJIEP) is now accepting applications for our third reporting fellowship cohort!

The SJIEP fellowship supports journalists and media makers looking to cover stories that are important to Black communities in South Jersey. Originally focused on Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties, the project will extend its coverage to reach Cumberland, Salem, and Atlantic counties in 2024.

The increased coverage area now allows us to add three more fellows, bringing us to a total of eight reporters next year. If you want to share stories about local news and the developments, businesses, and residents making a difference in South Jersey — we want to hear from you!

Join Nonprofit Finance Fund, New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and other nonprofit leaders for a webinar "Watch Party" series on key financial management concepts. Covering everything from cash flow planning to financial storytelling, this ten-part series is meant to give nonprofit arts leaders a comprehensive understanding of the techniques they need to run effective organizations for the long haul.

Each session will be a Watch Party where nonprofit leaders will come together virtually, watch the webinar together, and have the opportunity to ask NFF and NJSCA staff members questions following the session. Each session will be approximately 90 minutes, and will be held from November 15, 2023 through June 12, 2024.

We'll be opening up sign-ups for each session approximately one month in advance. Watch Party materials will be provided upon registration. Mark the below dates on your calendars and keep an eye out for registration links as they are sent out. Honda and the Honda USA Foundation provide funding to eligible organizations that support communities located near our major operations and align with our strategic CSR pillars of education, environment, mobility, traffic safety and community. We award funding through both corporate and foundation giving.

Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives: Amplifying Unheard Voices is a grant competition administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) for digitizing rare and unique content stewarded by collecting organizations in the US and Canada.

Launched in 2021, the program is designed to support efforts to digitize materials that deepen public understanding of the histories of people of color and other communities and populations whose work, experiences, and perspectives have been insufficiently recognized or unattended. Initial Applications for the second round of funding are due by November 1, 2023. See details at Apply for an Award.

These often “hidden” histories include, but are not limited to, those of Black, Indigenous, Latine, and other People of Color; Women; Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-binary, and other Genderqueer people and communities; Immigrants; Displaced populations; Blind, Deaf, and Disabled people and communities; and Colonized, Disenfranchised, Enslaved, and Incarcerated people.
