Geographic scope: National, but with emphasis on California | Description: The Wilhelm Family Foundation supports nonprofit arts organizations with the goal of helping improve the quality of life of artists and creative communities nationwide. While applications are welcome from across the U.S., most grants support organizations in California. The Foundation’s mission is to help expand artists’ access to resources by supporting organizations making creative expression, experimentation, public programming, and discourse accessible to all people, artists and non-artists alike. Grantmaking focuses on nonprofit arts organizations of all types and sizes, with an interest in organizations and programming that prioritize diversity, inclusiveness, community, and freedom of speech. Organizations that utilize art and programming to engage diverse, marginalized, at-risk, or underserved communities of all kinds are of particular interest. Generally, the Foundation’s grants are given to small nonprofit organizations that use their staff, programming, and resources to further dialog around creativity, cultural issues, and environmental and social justice issues for the benefit of artists and the communities in which they operate.

Geographic scope: United States, including U.S. territories. Grant amount: $10,000 to $50,000 |Description: Recordings at Risk, a national regranting program administered by the Council on Library and Information Resources, supports the preservation of rare and unique audio, audiovisual, and other time-based media of high scholarly value through digital reformatting. The grants cover the costs of preservation reformatting for fragile and obsolete time-based media content by qualified external service providers. Eligible media may include but are not necessarily limited to, magnetic audio and video tape, grooved discs, wax cylinders, wire recordings, and film (with or without sound). Applicants must be U.S. nonprofit academic, research, or cultural heritage organizations. (Government units and their agencies focused on cultural heritage and Indian tribes, Alaska Native villages, regional corporations, and village corporations are also eligible.)

The New Jersey Historical Commission (NJHC) is now accepting Declarations of Intent (DOI) to apply for its annual Project Grant program. Applicants can ask for up to $20,000 for eligible New Jersey history proposals. This includes, but is not limited to, research, conservation of historical materials, educational initiatives, editorial and publication projects, exhibitions, media, public programs, and capacity building. For FY 2025, a 1-year pilot initiative will allow prospective applicants with organizational budgets of at least $50,000 to apply directly to the NJHC for project grant support. This is a decrease from the traditional $100,000 threshold of previous years. February’s Black Art Matters program will feature a film screening and discussion of The League. The League is a Magnolia Pictures documentary about the formation and evolution of the Negro League through the early 1900’s in America. The film also mentions the Negro League-winning baseball team the Bacharach Giants that existed in Atlantic City in 1928. ArtPride, along with arts advocates from around New Jersey, is heading down to the nation’s capital to meet with elected federal officials to garner support for arts in the state. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts will host a quarterly teaching artist community of practice. These virtual sessions will allow teaching artists to share their experiences, discuss new opportunities, and connect with the State Arts Council. Through loosely moderated discussions, the sessions will provide an opportunity to network with other New Jersey teaching artists, share the challenges and successes of working in the state, and discuss what teaching artistry could look like as we move into the future.

SJCA is excited to announce an open call for artists in South Jersey to participate as vendors at the Stockton Performing Arts Center in the Spring. SJCA is seeking artists focusing on visuals, arts, crafts, and sculpture before the show and during the intermission of their upcoming programming. Artists must have prints, stickers, or any other materials available and ready to sell. Artists can sell and share their work among visitors at the performance and emphasize the importance of South Jersey arts.
