New Jersey State Council on the Arts | Calling all New Jersey Teaching Artists! | The New Jersey State Council on the Arts is hosting quarterly teaching artist community of practice meetings. These virtual sessions serve as a platform for teaching artists to share their experiences, discuss new opportunities, and connect with each other and the State Arts Council. Through loosely moderated discussions, the sessions provide an opportunity to network with other New Jersey teaching artists, share the challenges and successes of working in the state, and discuss what teaching artistry could look like as we move into the future. | Next Meeting: December 13, 2023 at 3 PM
Stories of AC | Artist Meet Up | Stories of Atlantic City kicked off our newest cycle of artist meetups with November's forum meeting a few weeks back. Now, we turn to the next part of our curriculum, deep learning. For this meeting, our forum meeting members asked that we curate a space of art- and idea-sharing, so: Our December deep learning meeting will center your stories, how you arrived at your relationship to art, and where you and your community see you heading. You may bring a piece of art (any medium!) or email a photo or video of the art you'd like to share to this email with the subject "Showcase 12/14."
Arts Ed NJ | Culturally Responsive Arts Education (CRAE) Workout | The FREE experience allows artists, teachers, teaching artists and administrators to learn what CRAE is, reflect on their own practices and intentionally imbed culturally responsive practices into their work and validate all students’ cultures and lived experiences. The CRAE Workout is also an opportunity to join a community of people dedicated to learning, self-discovery, and supporting each other in advancing this work.Kicking-off in the new year, the Workout is an eight-week curated asynchronous experience of curated readings, videos, and reflection prompts. Participants can also opt in to attend four zoom guided conversations that happen every other week to delve deeper into the content. | Register | January 15th and running through March 8, 2024
Arts Professional Learning Institute | Calling all Educators and Teaching Artists | This paid opportunity is an incredible way to collaborate with like-hearted individuals, create art in a welcoming, inclusive environment, and develop your instruction — all with student benefit in mind! Stipend amount is $3,465 for teaching artists and $1,100 for school educators. A travel stipend will be provided for in-person events. | Application | Deadline: December 4, 2023 5PM
New Jersey Performing Arts Center | Decolonizing Arts Education | In this workshop educators will learn how to remove European and colonial practices from teaching and learning. Through reflection, writing and discussion, participants will work collaboratively on methods to decolonize arts education. Participants will leave with a resource guide to begin their actionable work within K-12, higher education and community-based learning spaces. | Register | Deadline: December 6, 2023 3:30-5:00PM
New Jersey Theatre Alliance | Decolonization and the Arts | This roundtable session led by Tara Moses, co-founder and thought leader of Groundwater Arts, will introduce foundational learnings about colonization, how it shows up in the arts field, and how we can work to decolonize our practices.
