Accessibility in the Arts: Rowan University’s Marie Rader Presenting Series
New Jersey’s own Tony Award-winner Ali Stroker will perform an afternoon concert of Broadway favorites as part of Rowan University’s Marie Rader Presenting Series, Sunday, December 15 at 2 p.m. in Pfleeger Concert Hall in Glassboro, New Jersey.
Known for her work as a singer, author, and stage and screen actress with appearances on shows like Only Murders in the Building and Ozark, Stroker is the first wheelchair user to be nominated for and win a Tony Award in 2019. She won her Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as 'Ado Annie' in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and made history as the first actor in a wheelchair to appear on Broadway in Deaf West’s acclaimed 2015 revival of Spring Awakening.
While at Rowan, Stroker will host a musical theatre masterclass for students, some of whom will be invited to join her on stage to sing a few songs during her performance. Additionally, the Marie Rader Series will bring Stroker off campus for a meet and greet with theatre-loving teens from throughout South Jersey, hosted in partnership with South Jersey Youth Arts and Haddonfield Plays & Players. The meet & greet is free of charge, but registration is required, and space is limited.
Tickets for the December 15 performance are also still available. The matinee will offer ASL interpretation and half-priced tickets are available to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences.
