Are you a practicing artist in New Jersey looking for an opportunity to pursue your artistic goals? The 2024 Individual Artist Fellowship application is now open! Offered by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, these fellowships are awarded to talented artists through a competitive and anonymous application process.
The deadline to apply for the 2024 Individual Artist Fellowship is July 13, 2023, at 5:00 PM EST.
The State Council on the Arts provides application assistance webinars on June 14 and June 29, 2023. These webinars will provide valuable information about the program and offer an opportunity to ask questions.
Webinars: June 14th at 1 PM | June 29th at 10:00 AM
South Jersey Cultural Alliance will provide additional information and technical assistance for South Jersey Artists virtually on Tuesday, June 20th, at 2:00 PM.
You can register for that technical session here using this link.
The fellowship is open to artists working in various disciplines, including Film/Video, Digital/Electronic, Interdisciplinary, Painting, Prose, and Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts. Artists from different artistic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
In the past, fellowship awards have ranged from $4,000 to $32,000. The exact award amount is determined annually by the State Arts Council, based on funding provided through the New Jersey Hotel/Motel tax. There is no cap or quota per artistic discipline, and the number of fellowships awarded depends on the availability of funds.
In an effort to increase representation from historically underrepresented counties, the State Arts Council will offer higher awards, when possible, to fellows from the following counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Cumberland, Cape May, Camden, Gloucester, Ocean, Salem, or Warren. The application review process remains anonymous and unchanged, and awards are based solely on artistic excellence as determined by a panel of specialists in specific disciplines.
To access program guidelines, the online application, webinar registration links, and other application assistance resources, visit the Mid Atlantic Arts website. Guidelines are available in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for a wider audience.

Mid Atlantic Arts, established in 1979, promotes and supports arts programming across multiple states in the Mid-Atlantic region. They work closely with the National Endowment for the Arts and state and jurisdictional arts agencies to foster cultural exchange and support various art forms.
The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a division of the NJ Department of State, was created in 1966 to encourage public interest in the arts and allocate resources to support artistic endeavors. They believe that the arts are essential to modern society, contributing to human understanding, cultural and civic pride, strong communities, excellent schools, lifelong learning, creative expression, and economic opportunities.
